Ropes
Ongoing series of textile and ceramic sculptures since 2017
As with the sculptural works „Piled up to pillars“, the starting point of the Ropes – works is an art historical research based on visual material. The rope as a recurring accessory / ornament, which is used as a decoration in tassels / cords, but also festoons, always with the function to tie something to it, to connect something together or to intertwine. The Ropes works are to be understood as structures hanging from the ceiling, lying on the floor or lolling through the room.
Within the ropes artwork there are 2 narrative strands:
Baldachin and Cascades
Bundles of acid dyed ropes mounted in space like a canopy, a protective roof. The colors, with their soft/colorful gradient remind of an impressionistic waterfall, a reference to the tradition of (European) landscape painting.The random moment that occurs when the ropes are immersed in the acid paint pot and the speed with which the textile material sucks in the paint, are a very short-lived but beautiful moment in this work .
Schlumpf im Schrumpfschlauch
Part of the series is the reproduction of ropes by using ceramics. In this way, the rope, elastic in itself, loses all its functions attributed to it, resisting any possible physical movement in space. Like drawing gestures, the unreal rope dances through space and seems, as if by magic, to stand in space itself. The modular and reproduced ceramic parts are held together by heat shrink tubes. A material that is known from electrical engineering.

Wie auch schon bei den skulpturalen Arbeiten „Piled up to pillars“ ist der Ausgangspunkt der Ropes – Arbeiten eine kunstgeschichtliche Recherche basierend auf Bildmaterial. Das Seil als wiederkehrendes Beiwerk/Ornament, welches als Zierde bei Quasten/Kordeln, aber auch Festons, immer mit der Funktion daran etwas anzubinden, etwas miteinander zu verbinden oder zu verflechten. Die Ropes-Arbeiten sind als Gebilde, die von der Decke hängen, am Boden liegen oder sich durch den Raum räkeln, zu verstehen.
Innerhalb des Werkkomplexes gibt es zwei Handlungsstänge:
Baldachin und Cascades
Bündel von mit säurefarben gefärben Seilen, die im Raum wie ein Baldachin, ein schützendes Dach, montiert werden. Die Farben, mit ihrem sanften/bunten Verlauf erinnern an einen impressionischischen Wasserfalls, ein Bezug zur Tradition der (europäischen) Landschaftsmalerei. Der Zufallsmoment, der beim Eintauchen der Seile in den Säurefarbtopf entsteht und die Geschwindkeit mit der sich das textile Material mit der Farbe ansaugt, sind bei dieser Arbeit ein sehr kurzlebiger und schöner Moment. .
Schlumpf im Schrumpfschlauch
Ein Teil der Serie ist die Reproduktion von Seilen mittels Keramik. Dadurch verliert das an sich elastische Seil all seine ihm zugeschriebenen Funktionen, widerstehen sie doch jeglicher möglichen physikalischen Bewegung im Raum. Wie zeichnerische Gesten, tanzt das unwirkliche Seil durch den Raum und scheint wie von Zauberhand, selbst im Raum zu stehen. Zusammengehalten werden die modularen und reproduzierten keramischen Einzelteile, mittels Schrumpfschläuchen. Ein Material, dass man aus der Elektrotechnik kennt.
